Foreign nationals retain residency after successful immigration law appeal
15 Feb 2024
Our Law Firm has successfully represented a family of nine individuals from the United States of America in their journey to reestablish Lithuanian citizenship. The family's ancestral ties to Lithuania, dating back to their departure from the country through the port of Bremerhaven (Germany) in 1949, prompted their desire to reestablish their citizenship.
The right to reestablish Lithuanian citizenship is established for individuals who held Lithuanian citizenship before June 15, 1940, and their descendants who have not acquired Lithuanian citizenship until April 1, 2011. These individuals have right to restore Lithuanian citizenship, regardless of whether they permanently reside in the Republic of Lithuania or another country, and if they are not citizens of another state.
The requirement to renounce citizenship of another state does not apply to individuals who were deported from the occupied Republic of Lithuania before March 11, 1990, or who left Lithuania before March 11, 1990, or their descendants. A descendant of a citizen of the Republic of Lithuania is a child, grandchild, or great-grandchild of a person who held Lithuanian citizenship before June 15, 1940.
Sulija Partners legal team navigated the complex process, ensuring that all necessary documentation, including archival records from foreign countries, were meticulously collected. This achievement not only reconnects the American family with their Lithuanian heritage but also opens doors to a range of rights and opportunities associated with Lithuanian citizenship.
The successful outcome of this case underscores the firm's commitment to providing dedicated legal representation and personalized attention to each client eligible to reestablish Lithuanian citizenship.
