Competition & EU Law

28 Feb 2014

The European Commission adopted new guidelines for Member States in supporting airports and airlines in accordance with the requirements of EU law. The purpose of the guidelines is to ensure better connections between regions and the mobility of European citizens, while also minimising distortions of competition in the EU’s internal market. The guidelines deal with issues of providing state aid for investment in airport infrastructure, providing state aid to regional airports, start-up state aid to airlines and many other issues relevant to the aviation industry in EU.

The formal adoption and publication of the new guidelines in the Official Journal is expected to take place in March 2014. For informational purposes the unofficial text of the guidelines can be found in English here
