The law firm continues to represent a major German insurance company in a major nearly one million litigation case against the Lithuanian Railways and Lithuanian Shipping Company (now bankrupt and liquidated).

The case triggered the bankruptcy of the largest state-owned company in Lithuania and includes various encumbrances created over the ships owned by the Lithuanian Shipping Company in Canada, Germany and USA and the role of various arrangements entered into just before the bankruptcy of the Lithuanian Shipping Company. The dispute was only partially resolved in favour of the client at the trial and appeal courts.

After the dispute has been brought before the Supreme Court of Lithuania under the cassation appeal filed by our law firm, the Supreme Court of Lithuania agreed with the position of our law firm, repealed the previous court rulings and returned the case for re-examination at the trial court. The court pointed out that the liability of the Lithuanian Railways may not be excluded, but additional circumstances had to be established and considered by the lower courts in order to properly address the claims raised by the client in court.
