Legislation

15 Nov 2012

On November 8, 2012 the Parliament of the Republic of Lithuania adopted the Law on Administrative Burden Reduction (No. XI-2386). The Law was adopted with the view that unreasonable and disproportionate administrative burden has a negative impact on the country's economy. The new Law aims to ensure a harmonious process of reducing administrative burden, focused on private, commercial and public interests as well as on the cost-effective achievement of legislative goals. The Law defines administrative burden as consumption of time and financial costs that originate from performing statutory informational obligations. The Law provides for administrative burden reduction principles, means and ways of its application. The execution of tasks set in the new Law and entrusted by the Government regarding the assessment of administrative burden and applying mitigation measures has been entrusted to a new institution – the Commission of Better Regulation Supervision. The year plan of means of reducing the administrative burden shall be approved by the Government and submitted to the Parliament of the Republic of Lithuania, and information on its implementation shall be published and updated at least quarterly on the Government's website.

The Law on Administrative Burden Reduction will come into force as of 1st July, 2013.
