Restoration of the Lithuanian citizenship

5 Sep 2016

The law firm assisted an Australian citizen whose parents left Lithuania during the period of Soviet occupation in restoring Lithuanian citizenship. The person was born in a German refugee camp, lived with his parents in Austria and currently holds Australian citizenship.

The Lithuanian citizenship was restored on the grounds of Part 1 of Article 9 of the Law on Citizenship stating that persons who maintained the citizenship of the Republic of Lithuania prior to 15 June 1940, and descendants of such persons, retain the right to Lithuanian citizenship for an unlimited period of time, notwithstanding their current place of residence.
